Legal Action for Green Pensions

The law firm Leigh Day are looking into whether legal action can be pursued against employers who do not offer ‘green pensions’ to their staff.  The DB section of the USS pension scheme is definitely not a ‘green pension’. Furthermore your employers (the Universities) are being inconsistent since most of them have divested their own funds from fossil fuels but still put members’ pension contributions into a ‘non-green’ fund. And USS members don’t have any choice over pension funds unless they earn over the £ 70 k threshold and make contributions to the DC part of the scheme.

To pursue a case, Leigh Day need a claimant. Naturally, there is a potential overlap between prospective claimants and divestment campaigners.

If you might be interested in getting involved, please fill out the short form linked on Leigh Day’s website

At this stage, you are not signing up for anything if you fill out the form – you are just expressing interest.

They aren’t necessarily looking for just one person, so the more people that express interest in being a claimant the better.

Thanks!
